Personal Statement
I was born on February 17, 1996. I am Barbadian and Thai. I was born and raised in Sacramento California, guided by my mother and father, who are very caring and supportive of me. I have an older brother who also looks after me and a younger brother and sister who look up to me. I am very creative, shy at times, yet very outgoing once you get to know me. I am loving, caring, and have a big heart. At times, I tend to put others before myself. I love to make others smile, laugh, and truly have fun. When someone needs me I'm always there ready to give my best advice. I'm all about respect and honesty. I feel that without those two qualities I won't get far.
I look up to my mom because I see her as a strong individual who makes the best of what she's got. My mom taught me to never let someone stop you from what you want to achieve. In my free time I love to draw, bake, write poetry, spend time with my family, or work with little kids. One of my biggest goals is to learn how to play the piano, ukulele and relearn the violin. I love to watch boxing and football on my free time.
Growing up never being accepted due to the color of my skin and the way I talked made me want to be something I was not so that people would like me and I would have friends. Even now that I'm older I still get the same responses due to the color of my skin. When I walk into an Asian store or restaurant the looks others give me make me feel uncomfortable with myself. The day I came across a quote by Lucille Ball and she said to "Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world" and it made me realize that if I love myself and I'm comfortable with myself then everything else does not really matter. Additionally, when you realize that when you focus on the things that matter, what everyone else thinks of you no longer makes you who you are. What you believe you are will determine who you are and “Be Who You Are and Say What You Feel Because Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind.” -Dr.Seuss
